An auto mechanic is a mechanic who specializes in automobile maintenance, repair, and sometimes modification. Some mechanics work on all parts of any car, while others specialize in one area or on one type of car. Traditionally, automotive service technicians went through a program of 3- to 4-years serving as an apprentice
Basic vehicle maintenance is a fundamental part of a mechanic's work so is the preventive maintenance. Basic maintenance includes examining and lubricating engines and other devices during a tune-up. Preventive maintenance, like replacing an old part helps prevent a component failure from damaging other parts of the vehicle. The most challenging factor of car repair is diagnosing the problem. Diagnosing problems may seem very challenging, but also provides great satisfaction. Luckily, vehicles use high-tech computers and complex electronic systems to monitor the performance of the vehicle. That makes diagnosing even easier for them.
Automotive technology is continuously becoming more and more sophisticated. Vehicles today possess complex computer and electronic systems, mechanics need to have a broader base of knowledge than in the past. The days of the 'shade tree mechanic', who needed little knowledge of today's computerized systems is fading quickly.
Auto mechanics proudly compare themselves to doctors, since they mainly see people with complaints. Those who have experience with the breakdown of a vehicle are aware of the value automotive service technicians and mechanics provide.
Teaching auto repair is a growing field. Most automobile instructors now provide sophisticated diagnostic computers to each technician. Those who do can easily obtain employment.

The "green" vehicles list is already out. And it appears to be that two Ford vehicles were included and appeared on the "green" vehicles list in ACEEE's Green Book(R) Online for MY 2008 and it was announced by The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy according to Ford Headlines.
In addition to this, Ford.com reported that the Ford Escape Hybrid was named and included in "Greener Choices 2008" list and the Ford Focus in the "Top 12 Greenest Vehicles of 2008" list by the capital state-based non-profit environmental organization.
"We are pleased that the Ford Focus PZEV model is on the top 12 list for ACEEE, and the Ford Escape Hybrid on the Greener Choices list. Both vehicles are excellent examples of the kind of products Ford has to offer to consumers who are seeking high fuel economy, good driving performance and great value in their driving choices," says Sue Cischke, Ford Motor Company's senior vice president for Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering.
The Focus with 2.0L 4-cylinder, manual transmission and perfect catalytic converter which obtains 24 miles per gallon in the city and 35 on the highway, claimed a spot on the 12 most environmentally-friendly models offered to consumers for 2008 according ACEEE. On the other hand, the ACEEE also stated that the 2.3L 4-cylinder Escape Hybrid made it to the selection of the most environmentally friendly vehicles in dealerships at present.
"It sends an important message to the public to see domestic manufacturers like Ford on these lists, because they haven't always delivered the most fuel efficient cars. In fact, last year, the domestics were shut out of the Top 12. So, it's great to see the Focus up there again," says Therese Langer, ACEEE transportation director.
When a mother gives birth to a healthy baby girl or boy, she, along with her husband, will think of a name for the child. Of course, they will always go for the best and extraordinary. Speaking of given names, Ford Motor Company finally gave their newest small car its global title - Fiesta! The word 'fiesta' means celebration and festivities, and it definitely matches the emerging trend of small cars today. It's indeed a party for the newest breed of small cars!
The small car was developed and designed in Europe at first. According to the Auto Channel, the Fiesta along with its cool floor mats will be distributed to various dealerships worldwide from this year until 2010. Customers from Europe, Asia, North and South America, South Africa and Australia will get hold of this vehicle soon.
"The new Ford Fiesta captures every aspect of what's defined Ford as a small-car leader in Europe and builds on it in terms of driving dynamics and design. When it arrives in North America in 2010, the Ford Fiesta will set a new standard in the small car segment. Even before it arrives in this market, though, the new Fiesta demonstrates how leveraging our global strengths can yield attractive benefits for customers around the world," says Mark Fields, president of the Americas for Ford Motor Company.
"With the all-new Fiesta, we want to create a world standard for small car quality, design and comfort in a vehicle that is as exciting to drive as it is to look at. We believe this all-new model will attract a whole new generation of small car buyers, whether they are in Britain, Spain, China or California. The new Ford Fiesta will set the standard for delivering to our customers products they really want and value while taking advantage of our wonderful global resources," says Alan Mulally, Ford Motor Company President and CEO.
"The new Ford Fiesta is an example of how good a small car can be. The Fiesta is great to look at, great to drive and it has quality you can see, feel and touch. It's going to be an important growth product for North America."
Dearborn automaker Ford is known for the quality of the vehicles it has been delivering to consumers around the world. It's F-150 is the bestselling truck in the United States and it is easy to see if one will highlight the features of the truck.
The automaker though is going one step further by providing more useful features to their vehicles. "Ford Work Solutions provides truck customers new technologies and tools to help them work even smarter and further boost their productivity," said Mark Fields, president of The Americas for Ford.
The company's newsletter lists down these new features:
- An in-dash computer developed with Magneti Marelli and powered by Microsoft Auto that provides full high-speed Internet access via the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network and navigation by Garmin. It's the first broadband-capable in-dash computer in production. This system allows customers to print invoices, check inventories and access documents stored on their home or office computer networks - right on the job site.
- Tool Link, a Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) asset tracking system developed in partnership with DEWALT, the industry leader in professional power tools, and ThingMagic, the industry expert on embedded RFID technology. This enables customers to maintain a detailed real-time inventory of the tools or equipment stored in the pickup box.
- Crew Chief, a fleet telematics and diagnostics system, which allows small fleet owners to efficiently manage their vehicles, quickly dispatch workers to job sites and keep detailed vehicle maintenance records.
- Cable Lock security system developed in partnership with Master Lock, the industry-leading lock manufacturer, to discourage theft of expensive tools too large to fit in the cab.
These features would surely make any Ford vehicle much more valuable than a
knock sensor.

Finally, a racecar is about to set the race tracks on fire, the green way! Car racing will shift into the next level as Baker Curb Racing's "Green Team" car, which will get underway on a Ford Fusion, will partake at the ARCA 200 Race at the Daytona International Speedway next week. According to the
Auto Channel, Gary Baker and Mike Curb, owners of the Baker Curb Racing, chose EnvirOx, LLC, a sustainability-powered group that heads in environmentally preferred cleaning breakthroughs and merchandise to be its partner for the upcoming events in 2008.
"We couldn't think of a more appropriate partnership to unveil our Green Team car. EnvirOx transformed the professional cleaning industry with its revolutionary hydrogen peroxide technology and continues to create innovative cleaning solutions that are healthier for humans and the environment," states Gary Baker.
On the 9th of February, the first "Green" Ford Fusion will compete along with other racing teams which will mark its first appearance as the newest contender on the ARCA 200 race. Mark your calendars and let's all witness the rise of the first 'green Fusion' with precise
fuel injectors and a clean engine.
"Our partnership with the Baker Curb Racing Green Team gives us the opportunity to inform the general public about the leadership role the professional cleaning industry is taking with issues of health and our environment, and how they also can 'green clean' their own homes," states Taylor Stewart, president of EnvirOx, LLC. "The same hydrogen peroxide cleaning technology that changed the professional cleaning industry is now available to consumers through OurHouse cleaning products. Our sponsorship of the Green Team provides a great opportunity to raise awareness of these environmentally preferred cleaning alternatives."
